Conference Committee Minutes

In Attendance: Flavia Ploog, Jessie Mitchell, Kim Smalley, Catherine Wilson, Larrissa Maxwell, Justin Kyriannis, Veronica Delgado, Patricia Wright

 

A)    Welcome– Dr. Kimberly Smalley, President

 

B)    Tentative conference location

a.      Possible locations include the Liliha Public Library, the State of Hawaii Lab, and CFS.

b.      The library charges a fee of $25 to book while the other options do not have a known fee.

 

C)    Conference Agenda

a.      The date of the conference will be May 14, 2005

b.      The sessions will span from 9:00 am -12 noon, and from 1:00 pm -4:00 pm. The tentative agenda was discussed:

                                                                        ii.      11:15 am – 12:15 pm   Teaching ABA               Lynn Woolsey

                                                                      iii.      12:15 pm – 12:30 pm     Lunch  on your own

                                                                       iv.      1:30 pm – 2:30 pm   Writing Measurable Objectives   Jessie Mitchell

                                                                         v.      2:45 pm – 3:45 pm Shaping - Veronica Delgado & Flavia Ploog

                                                                       vi.      4:00 pm – 5:00 pm         cleanup (janitor duty)

c.      All conference presentations will be labeled based on difficulty level (e.g., introductory, intermediate, etc.)

d.      4 CEU’s approved by the BACB (Behavior Analyst Certification Board) will be offered for the day.

 

D)    Additional Responsibilities

a.      Catherine Wilson will create a sign-in sheet for attendees.

b.      Kim Smalley will look into acquiring a projector.

c.      Catherine Wilson will create a flyer, Justin Kyriannis will create a registration form, and Patricia Wright will do the final layout and design.

d.      Patricia Wright will start a phone tree to help disseminate conference information, prompt attendance, and delegate needed tasks.

e.      Catherine Wilson will provide refreshments, muffins, cups and plates. Jessie Mitchell will assist Catherine if needed.

 

E)    Conference Cost

a.      For the first HABA conference, CEU’s will be included in the conference cost!

b.      Breakdown of costs (per person)

                                                                          i.      HABA membership                    $10

                                                                        ii.      HABA member                            $25                            

                                                                      iii.      Individual                                      $40

                                                                       iv.      1-5 participants                           $30

                                                                         v.      6 or more participants                $25

                                                                       vi.      Parent / Student                          $15

 

F)     Conference Promotion

a.      Justin Kyriannis will contact Easter Seals and other day programs that require training for their employees.

b.      The Department of Education and the Department of Developmental Disabilities will be faxed HABA conference flyers and follow-up phone calls will be made.

c.      Various agencies and universities (e.g., Hawaii Pacific University) will be contacted.

d.      Agencies and organizations will be allowed to set up a literature table and advertise their product or agency. HABA will NOT charge for this service as this is the first conference.

e.      Phone tree

 

G)    Discussions unrelated to the conference for future endeavors

a.      Flavia Ploog will file for non-profit status with the IRS, form 501(c)(6) classified as Business League.

b.      Posting to members on the listserve ways to better HABA

c.      Promoting the website: http://home.hawaii.rr.com/haba/

d.      Promoting the group message board: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/HawaiiABA/

e.      Post information on other listserves

f.        Write a press release for media

g.      Solicit funds from corporations; tax deductible donations

h.      Obtain government grants or donations

i.        Partnership with corporations in exchange for advertising, etc.

j.         Direct mail postage (non-profit rate).

k.      We need accountability and delegation of tasks
