In Attendance: Thomas Antony, Jessie Mitchell, Justin Kyriannis, Fred Attard, Tanja Brown, Patricia Wright, Larry Hudspeth, John Draeger

 

A)    Introductions – Welcome new members

 

B)    Operations          

a.      We currently have 42 members, although some owe annual dues. Flavia will identify such members and post a reminder for collection of dues.

b.      Announcement: Christine Kim is donating (Free) 2 large boxes of JABA’s and JEAB’s to anyone interested. Contact her via e-mail to set up a time and date to pick them up.

 

C)    Non-profit status

a.      Justin is currently completing IRS form 1023 for the application for recognition of exemption.

b.      Flavia will complete a 2 page financial document that includes 3 years of revenues and expenses.

c.      Review of HABA’s new Conflict of Interest policy.

d.      Review of HABA’s By-Law update which includes necessary tax exemption provisions.

e.      Member recommendation to find an attorney to volunteer to sit on our board.

f.        The need to pursue grant opportunities for non-profit organizations (e.g., Aloha United Way).

 

D)    Autism Conference – Partnership between HABA and PCFD discussed by Tanja Brown

a.      Pearl City Cultural Center may be a possible site including continental breakfast buffet and lunch.

b.      Three more speakers are needed for the 3 day conference.

c.      Two days will cover challenging behavior for children with ASD and graduate credits will be available, along with certificates of attendance for DOE staff.

d.      Dr. Christine Kim was nominated as a potential speaker candidate.

e.      Four more conferences will be held in the Spring complete with breakout sessions, in Arizona, Washington, Colorado, and New Mexico.

f.        Jessie Mitchell volunteered to assist Tanja with printing and photocopying needs.

g.      Patricia Wright volunteered to assist Tanja with proofreading.

h.      The conference was suggested to be held the end of January. Please check the HABA website for up-to-date information.

 

E)    Conference and Miscellaneous Discussions

a.      TASH will be holding a series of telephone conferences on various behavioral issues. Please view the TASH website http://www.tash.org/teleconferences for more information.

b.      HABA will be working toward becoming a BACB CEU provider which would entail a CE syllabus, application, and a $200 yearly fee.

c.      To help disseminate ABA, a discussion pursued regarding greater awareness of the BCBA along with a push for universities and schools to offer necessary coursework leading to a degree in ABA.

d.      It was suggested by John Draeger that a partnership with University of Hawaii may be a productive involvement when marketing and hosting a conference.

 

F)     Newsletter

a.      Dissemination of Autism SIG (Special Interest Group) guidelines. These guidelines will be included in the upcoming HABA newsletter.

b.      We are still awaiting article submission from Rachel Thampan and Thomas Antony. Thomas will be leaving Hawaii for job relocation. We wish you the best! Aloha!
