Open Board of Director Positions

President-Elect/Vice President

This position is a three-year position. Year one is spent as the Vice President or President-Elect. Year two is spent in the President's role. Year three is spent as the Past President. The President-Elect, President and Past President serve as leaders on the Board.  Responsibilities of these positions may include: Liaison for Student and Parent Representatives, liaison for our partnership with the Cambridge Center for Behavioral Studies, representing HABA in legislative endeavors, and assist all other board members in various tasks as needed (help marketing, event planning, etc).  Vice President and Past President participate in the monthly board member meetings one time per month and responds to inquiries daily via HABA email account. President runs the monthly board member meetings one time per month and responds to inquiries daily via HABA email account and Facebook Messenger.These positions require a time commitment of approximately 10-15  hours per month with an increase in the months close to the annual convention date and during the active legislative season. See the by-laws for more information.

Legislative Chair

The Legislative Chair is responsible for tracking legislative bills related to the practice of behavior analysis at both the state and federal level. The Chair leads the Legislative Committee and works with the HABA board of directors to recruit and submit testimony, publicize information, and meet with legislators and community stakeholders on policy issues.   This person also participates in the monthly board member meetings one time per month and responds to inquiries daily via HABA email account. The legislative session in Hawai'i runs January to May and this position requires a denser amount of time during the session of 15-20 hours per month and approximately 5 hours per month the remainder of the year. Events Chair

The Events Chair conducts outreach to potential speakers for the annual convention. The Chair manages and records BACB continuing education for members and creates CE sheets for the convention. This and other tasks may be delegating to members of the Events Committee. The Chair recruits committee members and coordinates the Events Committee Meetings. The Chair coordinates and collaborates with the Marketing Chair and other board members to assist with events and advertising for the convention. This person also participates in the monthly board member meetings one time per month and responds to inquiries daily via HABA email account. This position requires a time commitment of 15 - 20 hours per month with an increase in the months close to the annual convention date.

Marketing Chair

The Marketing Chair manages various marketing accounts and tasks for HABA such as the website, email system, registration system and various social media accounts. The marketing chair is responsible for learning how to manage these accounts as well as training other board members and event committee members on how to use various marketing programs. In this position, the individual will be responsible for maintaining the marketing task schedule which involves communicating to responsible parties to complete delegated tasks and following up to ensure their completion as well as completing various tasks themselves. A candidate for the marketing chair will require the ability to maintain effective organization and be able to commit to the variety of tasks that are required on a monthly basis. The marketing chair will work closely with the Events Chair and will attend monthly board meetings, events committee meetings as needed and respond to daily emails on the HABA account. The time commitment for this position averages to 10-20 hours per month with an anticipated increase at the beginning of the year when convention planning is occurring as well as in the months prior to the annual convention to ensure its proper preparation. It is expected that the marketing chair responds to emails in a timely manner.

Student Representative

The Student Representative is a one-year commitment. The Student Representative is responsible for recruiting student members to join the HABA Student Committee.  This person hosts quarterly Student Committee meetings as well as runs a HABA Student Committee Facebook group. The Student Representative communicates concerns and interests  of HABA student members to the HABA board.  This person also participates in the monthly board member meetings and responds to inquiries daily via HABA email account. The Student Representative is encouraged to assist other board members in various tasks. This position requires a time commitment of  approximately 5 hours per month. Non-voting Representative Positions

Parent Representative

The Parent Representative is a one-year commitment. It is a non-voting position. The Parent Representative communicates concerns and interests of the parent community to the HABA board.  The Parent Representative collaborates with board members on creating parent training events across the islands. The Parent Representative is welcome to  participate in the monthly board member meetings, though it is not mandatory. This position requires a time commitment of  approximately 1-5 hours per month.

Neighbor Island Representative

The Neighbor Island Representative is a one-year commitment. It is a non-voting position. The Neighbor Island Representative communicates concerns and interests of the neighbor islands related to the practice and dissemination of behavior analysis to the HABA board.  This person must live on a neighbor island. The Neighbor Island Representative is welcome to  participate in the monthly board member meetings, though it is not mandatory. This position requires a time commitment of  approximately 1-5 hours per month.

Events Committee

Those interested in the Events Committee must attend all but two Events Committee meetings. There are approximately 8 Events  Committee meetings per year. Events Committee members must also plan to attend the annual convention as well as one other event during the year. Events Committee members will enjoy the benefit of attending all HABA events, including the annual convention at half off the member price.

Legislative Committee

Those interested in the Legislative Committee must attend all but two Legislative Committee meetings. Legislative Committee meetings are held approximately once per month, possibly more during the legislative session. Legislative Committee members must also plan to submit testimony for all assigned bills and, when possible, support in testifying or attending meetings at the State Capitol. Committee members will enjoy the benefit of attending all HABA events, including the annual convention at half off the member price.
